The red tail on the SR22 that we’re flying across the country is a tribute to the Red Tail squadron, the first black pilots and support personnel in the 99th Fighter Squadron who were part of the 332nd Fighter Group, their aircraft identified by brightly painted red tails.
This mostly forgotten story, as told in book “The Hallelujah Flight” by Jack Lynn, is an inspiration to us all. Our flight across America is in honor of the black aviation pioneers who helped pave the way for the rest of us.
